“Peace” by Hannah Yamamoto

Written in a place of riot,
bitter words towards another,
with rebellion always calling our names.
Peace. It’s the hardest word to say.

Peace, the word which goes against
Our long lived morals of
“Fight for what’s right”.

Peace, a thing wanted by the needy,
and needed by ones who want.
A simple yet complicated promise to keep,
Created in a world not as idealistic as you’d like to think.

It’s written in the American dream
A word so optimistic
Friendly, and warm.
Yet so hard to keep our word.

With much easier words to say,
War, hatred, and death.
A simple meaning, yet so hard to understand.
Peace. It’s the hardest word to say.
