For the second year in a row, the Interact Club here at Livermore High School is holding a Marine Toys for Tots toy drive. Starting November 28, LHS students are encouraged to bring in their new or gently used toys to a donation box located in room 412. Anyone is welcome to donate books, games, sporting equipment, purses, gift sets, electronics, or any kind of gift you would purchase for a friend or family member. The last day to bring in donations is December 14.
Though the Interact club here at LHS has only been partnering with the charity since 2015, other Interact clubs in the Bay Area have been participating in the drive for multiple years. According to the Area 3 director Mikayla Tran from Foothill High School, the Interact clubs in Livermore, Dublin, and Pleasanton collected a combined 129 toys last year. All the toys donated are redistributed back to the community as Christmas gifts for less fortunate children.
The mission of the Marine Toys for Tots program, according to their site, is to “deliver, through a new toy, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.” The charity has been active since 1954 and is a designated activity of the U.S. Marine Corps.
As LHS celebrates the holidays, help the Interact Club and the Toys for Tots program give back to our community.
